General Excavation

A J Construction has the resources and experience to execute common excavation needs with precision, quality and efficiency. We look at each project globally and strategize a management plan to do it right the first time. Some of the common projects include:

  • Site Preps

  • New Homesites

  • Subdivision Developments

  • Retaining Walls

  • Stormwater Management

  • Utility and Infrastructure Installation

Site Preps and New Homesites

Durango's general contractors have continually turned to A J Construction when projects present higher complexity dig-outs. Long term project planning, material management and a solid understanding of a piece of terrain's behavior are carefully considered for each project.

When compared to other excavating contractors, we  try to expose possible budget conflicts from the beginning and avoid change orders. Our global approach to project management yields a better end product. Said more simply, we are not the cheapest, but corners will never be cut and it will always be done the right way.

Rock Work

Bike trail expansion on Durango Mesa Park began in summer of 2023. In addition to the construction of 1 mile of jump trail, A J Construction was also contracted to build the Meadow Hub, at the top of the jump trails.

The Hub is a good example of our rock work. The rock retaining walls incorporate bench seats and a stairway to additional seating. The Hub is protected from erosion with rip-rap lined drainages and all four bike entry/exits from the Hub are made more durable with the use of inlaid stone pavers.

Redi-Rock Retaining Walls

In certain circumstances, a precast block retaining wall is justifiable. These walls allow for faster construction, provide a more vertical face and allow for taller spans when compared to boulder built rock walls.

Infrastructure and Utility Installs

Our fleet is equipped to tackle large and small installations of various infrastructure projects. Water mains and services, gas lines, electric, storm and sanitation sewer, just to name a few. The ability to scale up or down is helpful depending on the situation.
